Keep the big MO!

Keep the big MO!

Sympathy and sorry will never grow your vision

We had a great time at the seminar during the weekend and the feedback that has been coming in has been amazing. Apart from equipping people with financial and investment decision-making wisdom; one of my other objective was to provide a platform for gifted young people to jump-start their dreams. I therefore hand-picked a few young people that I know have great gifts but just needed a nudge into the deep-end; young gifted people who know where they want to be but do not know how to get there! I provided them a platform to stimulate and showcase their gifts; and they did not disappoint! People were asking me where on earth I had I managed to fish out such exceptional talent! One young man with an exceptionally good musical gift was one of the three music groups I invited to perform. I have been hand-holding him ever since he told me he wanted to record his music but did not know how to walk the journey! I took him and he has since picked up pace and direction! Three days before the event he approached me almost in tears. His team was slowly disbanding and disintegrating. A number of his group members were giving excuses that they could no longer make it for the practice sessions for whatever reasons. They were deserting him at the last minute when he needed them the most. In discussing with him I realized that most of the group members consisted of his friends and church-mates that did not necessarily share his vision; but had agreed to be part of the group because they did not want to disappoint him. I said to him, ‘young man; that is lesson number 1 in your journey to realizing your dream. Never rely on sympathizers to grow your dreams’. In pursuit of your dreams never rely on those that are with you simply because they do not want to disappoint you; never rely on those that support you not because they believe in your dreams but because they sympathise and feel sorry for you. Sympathy and ‘sorry’ will never grow your vision! Walk with those that share your vision and believe your dreams!  Those will not dump you when you need them the most.

Keep the big MO!

I do a fair deal of travelling especially on business. I never cease to get amazed with the science of flying. Before a large jumbo jet airplane take off into the skies it taxies onto the runway and stop or slow down at one end of the runway; then the pilots begin to pump up the engines! If you are inside you can hear the engine revs increasing. What the pilots are doing is that they are beginning to increase the momentum of the plane before take-off. Steadily they begin to pick-up the speed down the runway until the plane gets to a point of no return at which it will take off. On take off they keep increasing the speed until the plane reaches the required altitude at which they maintain the speed or the momentum. If, as the plane speeds down the runway or when it’s in mid-air the pilot decides to slow down or just reduce the momentum drastically the plane can crush. To maintain the flying altitude the momentum must be maintained.  If at any point the momentum is lost it’s not very easy to regain it. When you have a dream you are like a plane on the runway. You need momentum for your dreams to take off! There is a minimum momentum that you require before you can take off in your dreams or visions. When you have gained that momentum it must be sustained; losing it can crush-land your calling! Yes, you may meet a lot of resistance on take off; but just keep pumping up the energy; and maintain the momentum! If you lose momentum it’s not easy to regain it. Keep going and keep the big MO! Whatever you have begun to pursue, keep going and never slow down. You may encounter challenges and difficulties; but just look for alternatives and keep going. Loosing momentum will not be good for you; keep on! With perseverance, determination and focus, eventually you will get to your flying altitude at which you can engage autopilot; as you enjoy the fruit of your dreams and visions!

You can never keep a good man down!

I have been following the last days of Jesus Christ on earth from the book of Matthew and have been having a lot of insights especially on the sacrifices He made for our salvation. I have also been having insights on the selfishness of the hearts of man. People can do anything in order to achieve their personal ambitions and in some instances just in order to have fun. The High Priests sought the life of Jesus; not because He had done anything wrong but simply because they felt threatened by His success in ministry and touching the lives of people at their points of need. For that reason they plotted against Him. On the other hand Judas plotted to betray his own master and friend; not because he had been treated unfairly compared to other disciples; but simply because he wanted to satisfy his financial ambitions. Animals kill for food but people can kill for personal ambitions. Never be tempted to be naïve to think that everyone around you will celebrate with you as you succeed in your calling. There those that will feel threatened and challenged; and seek to destroy the dreamer and the dream. The brothers of Joseph where not impressed with the young dreamer and his dreams. They wanted to get rid of the dreams by burying the dreamer; but little did they know that every attempt they made to get rid of Joseph only facilitated the accomplishment of the dreams. You can never keep a good man down! Dream on and pursue your calling! Remain watchful to those that want to destroy the dreamer and the dreams; but never be afraid of them because the Lord says, ‘Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you’ (Genesis 28 v 15).

Keep the big MO; I want to see dreams, visions and callings accomplished in this year!

Thanks for teaching me how to fish; now let's share your fish!

Thanks for teaching me how to fish; now let’s share your fish!

I just love it!

There is extreme excitement in my camp about the upcoming seminars. I have spoken in various platforms in many parts of the world and each experience has been great but this particular one is causing quite some excitement as the team has been spending a lot of time in prayer to make this not just another seminar; but a life transforming and paradigm shifting experience that will bring a turning point for all in attendance. It always excites me and gives me a great joy and satisfaction to make a contribution that helps somebody discover themselves; to help somebody discover their greater purpose and succeed in their own lives. In the process, I pay a lot – emotionally and otherwise! Many times I ask myself why I do it; but each time when I decide to hold back and say I will not do it again, just like Jeremiah, ‘His Word becomes in my heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones that I cannot withhold it’, (Jeremiah 20 v 9); and I rise up and keep doing it till Christ comes and I love it!

Never underestimate the power of hard-work

A friend of mine and high school classmate, called Innocent, taught me the power of discipline, focus and hard-work. Innocent was not a great student! In fact, Innocent was the first and only student I can remember to be slapped by our motherly math teacher for doing a very stupid mistake. Innocent’s brother was a medical student in university, and at that early stage Innocent decided he was also going to be a medical doctor. With his kind of performance, I tell you, there is no way Innocent was going to be anywhere near any university; but his brother told him which subjects he needed to concentrate on if he was to become a doctor. Innocent upped his game in the science subjects (4 of them). He figured out that he wasn’t naturally very intelligent and so the only way he was to become a medical doctor was to work 10 times harder; and for sure he did. He focused on the science subjects and worked ten times harder than every one of us. We all felt jealousy when suddenly Innocent began to get the better grades in class. He overtook us! To cut the long story short, after the secondary school exams (‘O’ levels) Innocent had 4 distinctions (of course in all science subjects) and average passes in the rest of the subjects. He proceeded to ‘A’ level where he also passed but unfortunately failed to make the minimum points for entry into medical school in the local university. Innocent was not the type to give up his dreams so easily! He worked 10 times harder than everyone of us in sending applications to hundreds of universities across the world that could dare look at his applications, even to such strange countries that I cant even mention. Sure enough, through persistence Innocent managed to get a scholarship to study medicine in Turkey. As I write, Innocent is a great doctor who works so hard, loves what he does and his patients are safe because they are in the hands of a man who achieved his life-long passion and dreams against all odds. Such is the power of focus, discipline and hard-work! Even with little or no material or natural advantages in your life you can greatly increase your chances of succeeding in your dreams and visions through discipline, focus and hard-work.  Decide what it is that you want; set your eyes on it; and pursue it with energy even against all resistance and you will succeed!  It’s no use throwing toys all over the room crying for the privileges you never had or the disadvantages you have! With what you have, rise up and work your way to success!

Beware of the parasites!

Success attracts people to you. Wherever He went, Jesus Christ had a large crowd following Him. Some followed him because they needed healing or ministry to their needs; some followed him out of curiosity and wanted to see Him in action; while some followed him because they wanted to serve him. But there were also some that followed him because they loved to be associated with a great man. All these people deserted him when the crunch moment came. Remember the 500 disciples!  They deserted him; and He turned to the 12 and said, ‘Are you going to leave me too?’ (John 6 v 66). Friends come and go but genuine friends will never leave you at your darkest hour. Peter said, ‘Lord, to whom would we go? You alone have the words that give eternal life,’ (John 6 v 68). Success will attract many people in your life many who have various motives. I share openly and freely to equip people through my experiences; and many times when I have taught people how to fish, I receive many who come back to me with the attitude that says ‘thank you very much for teaching us how to fish. It was great and we learnt a lot! Now let’s share the fish you’ve got!’ As you pursue your dreams and calling beware of parasites. Beware of those that follow you because they want to suck blood out of you; and they will depart when they are finished with you. In good times they will want to share with you your successes and be seen on the front pages in your company; but only to desert you when you need them the most. As you pursue your calling and dreams don’t be too impressed by the crowd behind you; know who is really for you!

At the end of the game everything goes back to the box

During the weekend I spent some time playing a game of Monopoly with my wife and daughter. I did a great job of accumulating wealth. I built the houses, got the airports, collected rentals and made lots of money. But sadly enough, at the end of the game we put everything back in the box; and got back to reality! In the game of life you will accummulate a lot of toys and good things as you pursue success and fulfillment of your dreams. But you must never forget that at the end of the game of life everything goes back to the box and you will be left to face the reality of eternity. While the game of life offers many options; the reality of eternity offers only two – heaven or hell – which way will you go? Even Judas at the peak of his accumulation spree had the guts to sell Jesus for a few more pieces of silver! The reality only dawned on him when he had the 33 pieces of silver safely in his bag that he had sold something more valuable for a less valuable price. He threw away the silver! Of what value was the silver going to be when he had sold Life to obtain it. Of what value will all your successes be if in the process you sell your Life!  It’s about balance. Put your dreams into action in this year but don’t lose sight of the real valuables in your life.

Keep focused and never underestimate the power of discipline and hard-work!

The Cost of Success

The Cost of Success

What a day!

On my way from Johannesburg, during the week, the plane developed a mechanical problem about 15 minutes after take-off. The flight captain said that the plane cabin was not pressurizing! I don’t know what that means or the consequences thereof in aeronautical terms but from understanding of fluid dynamics I know what happens when the internal pressure of a vessel is lower than the external pressure. However the captain assured us that it was a minor problem and there was no need to panic. The plane had to fly back to Johannesburg and we got into another plane. My programme was delayed by 3 hours! I have learnt never to worry or get frustrated over any situation that I have no control over. So I sat back, relaxed and enjoyed the ride.

When I eventually got to Gaborone I picked my vehicle which I had left at the airport parking and quickly drove around to cover a few errands before embarking on a 5 hour drive back home. During the course of my errands I developed a slow leak on one of my front wheels. A 550km trip is not a slow drive and you can’t afford a limping wheel. I kept my cool and got the tire attended to at the nearest garage. That was inconvenience number 2; but I learnt in life that patience is a virtue. Sometimes things happen that want to push us to take shorts-cut – and in most instances the short-cuts end up being the wrong-cuts!

Later I made my final stop, to pick up some items, before driving back home. Some four guys helped me pack the stuff in the vehicle trunk. Immediately after they finished packing the stuff they started doing some horse-play. I don’t understand how such elderly men would play fighting like small boys, like that! One of them slipped and fell onto my car and caused a large dent on the rear fender. You know that for a Mercedes Benz there is no small dent to the panelbeaters! I called my wife and said today is not my day. I chose not to get angry with those guys or even to fight them to pay for the repairs. I have learnt in life never to invest in a war in which the returns are less than the investment!

There times or seasons in our lives when things just seem to be going wrong; when it seems someone is after you; when it seems like everything in life is conniving against you! Pregnancy is heaviest just before delivery; the darkest hour is just before dawn! Resistance tends to multiply just before you breakthrough, keep pushing!  When you experience increased fighting, resistance and frustration in your life – it’s not time to give up – but its time to sharpen your focus because something great is about to happen!

Breaking points are breakthrough moments!

Even though I am very emotionally sensitive (you may not know that!), I have also done a lot of work to build and develop my emotional intelligence. One of the greatest qualities you will need if you are to succeed in your dreams, profession or in life in general is emotional intelligence – being in control and knowing how to and when to react! Despite all our abilities, high levels of control and emotional maturity there are situations in life that bring us to the breaking point; the point at which we lose control because of deep pain and hurt. Our Lord Jesus Christ was the greatest man to ever walk the face of the earth. He could endure hardship and difficulty; He could withstand rejection and pain. Even on the cross, with nails on His hands and feet, He never opened His mouth to cry; but on a few occasions in His life He experienced the breaking point; the point at which ‘all the fountains of the great deep broke up’ (Genesis 7 v 11).  ‘He wept’ (John 11 v 35) when He heard that Lazarus had died; and He groaned in the garden of Gethsemane when the reality of crucifixion had approached and he produced sweat and tears like drops of blood. Sometimes the situations of life close in on us and we find ourselves at the breaking point. I can testify of several such moments when I shed tears of pain. But in all those emotional moments of my life I learnt that; where you will shed your tears is where your treasure is hidden! Breaking points bring breakthrough moments! Just don’t let go of your focus of the cross. ‘When the fountains of the great deep are broken up; the windows of heaven will be opened up for you’ (Genesis 7 v 11). Don’t hold back the tears. Your tears will water your seeds of success! ‘He that goes forth weeping, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him’ (Psalm 126 v 6).

Whatever happens – keep moving!

Dreams must come to life this year; goals must be actioned; and visions must become a reality. But as you press forward to be a super-achiever in this year you must know that success does not come at a bargain price. You have to be prepared to pay the price! There is no competition at the top because the price-tag is higher!  You have to be prepared to bear the pain of discipline (but of course the reward is worth every inch of the pain). Your frustrations will increase; your enemies will multiply; they will spy on you; they will betray you and they will talk behind your back. They will not necessarily hate you for any wrong you might have done to them; but some will hate you for the good you are doing and for your success. When they speak, always remember that when anyone speaks behind your back it’s because you are ahead of them – so why bother! The paparazzi will watch your every step so that they can publicize and magnify even the smallest of your mistakes. Whatever happens press on towards the mark! Don’t look back and don’t get discouraged. Keep moving! You must invest in high levels of moral integrity and strength of character so that you may not be found wanting! The cost of investing in your character is very high and painful but the Return on Investment is worth every bit of the investment. This year you must be a super-achiever – but be prepared to pay the price of success! You can’t microwave your success!

Up your Game

Up your game

Don’t be a copy-cat!

There is something about Africa that makes the gospel come alive! This weekend I drove out on a Land Cruiser into the bush, with the boys, to pick up some firewood for a church function. Being out there in the bush gives the feeling of being deep in Africa. With prior arrangement some family who live out there had already prepared the fire-wood and ours was just to pick it and load into the vehicle. Some young girls, who live out there and are the age of my daughter, were also helping out with the preparation of the firewood. This was in contrast to my daughter whom I had left at home playing internet games on a laptop. Just 100km away were her age-mates, without the luxuries of technology, being trained to make use of their hands in a different world out there in the woods! One man was preparing a field which he has just acquired. It is a very large piece of land in the thick of the bush. To an untrained eye it’s just a bush full of trees and dangers of fiery serpents; but a trained eye can see wealth and great harvest in a few years time. The sight of the thick bush and forest being prepared for a field clarified for me Caleb’s experience when he asked and said, ‘Now therefore give me this mountain,’ (Joshua 14 v 12). Joshua did not ask for a piece of well-developed real estate but for an undeveloped mountain full of giants. He was not a copy-cat! He was not just seeking to share a piece of the existing cake but was determined to grow the size of the cake! He was going to grow his vision from virgin land. In 2010 be a pioneer! Begin where nobody has begun and develop the courage to venture into uncharted waters and unexplored territories!

Jump out of the inertia trap!

As we get deeper into the year, make sure by now you are out of the inertia trap and already making things happen. Develop the discipline of translating your plans into effective execution. Failure to translate your goals and plans into action is a sure path to mediocrity and failure. If you are to be a success story ‘inaction’ must be a no-go for you.

Practice positive quitting

Be clear about what projects, goals, visions and relationships you will pursue. You must develop the guts to quit those dead-end visions, goals and relationships which you have been pursuing for years and have been unfruitful. Confront issues and conclude them; don’t let non-value adding issues follow you all year long and waste your precious time. Know which visions to pursue and which battles to fight! Wisdom will save your day:  ‘If the iron be blunt, and you do not sharpen the edge, then you will put more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct’ (Ecclesiastes 10 v 10). Sharpen your blunt axes. This is a year of ‘no-blunt axes’. Practice positive quitting!

2010: the year of 5

Charles Darwin said ‘It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the most responsive to change’. In order for you to be successful and survive in this year you must up your game. A small consistent incremental change in your life is all you need to up your game in 2010. Wake up 5 minutes earlier; increase your bible study time by 5 minutes; your prayer time by a 5 minutes; your exercising time by 5 minutes; your savings by 5 %; and you will see the multiplication of results. Increase your input in every dimension of your life; your work; your business; your family and you will experience growth. God is a multiplier! Increase input by a small margin and watch Him produce a 100-fold increase in your life. Commit to a consistent incremental change in your life this year and call 2010: the year of 5 - the year in which you will increase all the parameters in your life by 5 (5 minutes, 5 hours or 5 %) and let God multiply your victory.

Let’s join hands and up our game! I have already begun benchmarking myself with the best and I believe ‘I am destined to succeed!’
